One of the bills that governor signed just before Sunday's deadline will create a state wide system for screening and storing umbilical cord blood. Last year, San Francisco's State Senator Carole Migden disclosed she was diagnosed with leukemia a decade ago. New Law Touts Benefits of Umbilical Cord Blood
Rich in stem cells, umbilical cord blood has been used to treat illnesses such as leukemia, lymphoma and Crohn's disease. But not everyone is aware of the cord blood's therapeutic abilities or how to store it for future use. A new state law, however, could change that.
